How do you install utilities in busy urban areas without closing roads?

We specialize in Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD), which allows us to install utilities under roads, railways, and existing structures with minimal surface disruption. This trenchless approach is ideal for urban areas like Calgary or Kelowna where traditional excavation would cause major traffic delays or environmental damage.

Can you manage the entire lifecycle of a utility project?

Yes. BRT offers a turnkey solution — from hydrovac daylighting and caisson piling to cable pulling, splicing, and final asphalt repair. One point of contact for the entire utility install reduces coordination headaches and keeps the project timeline on track.

What is your capacity for large-scale deep foundation work?

We have a robust fleet capable of specialized drilling and piling. Our equipment handles caisson and piling projects reaching depths of up to 60 feet and diameters of up to 90 inches, making us a reliable partner for street lighting, cell towers, and green energy infrastructure foundations.

How do you handle emergency repairs or tight deadlines for major utility providers?

With over 30 years in the industry and a large multi-province fleet, BRT is built for scalability and responsiveness. We have a proven track record meeting the high-pressure demands of major telecommunications and power providers like Telus and Enmax, ensuring critical infrastructure stays live or gets back online quickly.

What is a utility contractor and what do they do?

A utility contractor installs, maintains, and repairs underground infrastructure including power lines, telecommunications cables, water mains, and gas lines. BRT Construction is a Calgary-based utility contractor specializing in shallow utility infrastructure, horizontal directional drilling, and deep foundation work across Alberta and Western Canada.
